Part of me wonders how much of this is already done?  The groundwork has been laid, throughout the '70s and into today, and we have the film industry to also thank for this.  As both a creative medium and a communication tool, I'm not sure if I would have had the knowledge or foresight without the induction of the Qatsi Trilogy. For those of you that don't know, this is a series of three movies that were produced beginning in the early '80s and extending in the early '00s and includes the musical scores of Philip Glass.  Beginning with Koyaanisqatsi and including the second and third parts Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi , respectfully, these films serve as a reminder of the power of film, and the indigenous prophecies that are well known and exist outside of the 20th-century Judeo-Christian narrative.  Far from a formal movie review, this is a reminder of the Hopi's importance with our place in the Universe, and why their relationship to the stars, is as importan...
It seems fair, then, to say that when moving away from oils and lotions in a bodywork practice that it also reduces the risk of working with those that are solely seeking sex or a sexual transaction.  Bodywork, from the beginning, is about using one's abilities to assist others with their own awakening journey.  Healing is secondary in many ways as we can't enable the outcome any more than another person will allow.  We also can't interfere in their own healing process and, instead, can only serve as a catalyst and mirror for their own journey inwards.  It is up to the individual seeking light, or healing, or awareness, or whatever you'd like to call it to walk through those gates and surrender to the higher power that they were seeking to begin with. If you have ever been through a somatic healing crisis, you know how explosive these situations can be.  Far from the glamour that a televangelist would like you to believe, the actual process of healing and awakening ...
People often wonder why I'm a massage therapist.  These people also wonder how I can get along without the power of our totems involved in this type of work.  For a long time, when I first began working in a licensed practice, I was very cloistered and cut off from my spiritual source of power.  I had intentionally let go of the concepts that had fueled my practice of shamanism out of concern that their acknowledgment and use could interfere with my licensed work.  I was there to practice massage therapy, after all, and not shamanism.  From the very basics, shamanism has very little to do with the art of therapeutic massage, although quite a lot to do with the basic connection of human touch. In our touch-deprived world, we have found confusion on the distinctions between gender and sex, touch and romance, and what they possibly mean for a straight guy in a professional bodywork practice.  For a lot of people, there is a genuine gender preference when it comes to receiving a th...
Yes, it's obvious, with as much skill and intent to practice the mysteries of healing, why acupuncture and Classical Chinese Medicine aren't listed in my practice.  Well, truth be told, the interest and inclination to practice and refine this craft to such a high level of mastery has always been there – has always been in my plans. Then the prophecies occurred.  The dreaming visions that woke me from my slumber began to manifest in my life.  It wasn't only the business partnership that had been formed, it was the unraveling of my life and the forward-moving downward spiral that became so brilliantly clear.  I knew it was going to be painful, it was my dream, after all, I just didn't realize that it was going to hurt so goddamned much.  That it was going to blind me with its stunning presence and crystal clear location. I also didn't know that John had a son with a similar name, that mirrored my efforts, even up until this day. I don't talk about propheci...
Here we are, heading back to work, and after all these years that have passed, I still find myself amazed at the intricacies of the human body.  I find myself humbled when I realize the simple act of being alive, is perhaps the greatest gift of all.  To be in this body, and filled with awareness, creates a sentient intelligence that I have found to be awe-inspiring.  I have found the somatic intelligence of the human body to come to us from beyond the norms of rational intelligence, and instead, serve as a reminder of the Great Mystery that lies within all of us. It's unfortunate that we don't pause, and listen, and return to the simple act of breathing more often.  With our fast-paced world and emotionless relationships with those around us, we lose ourselves in the daily grind far more often than not.  To be in this body and free from the competitive ego has loosened the need to compare with those that are considered peers, and instead, practice my craft with the freedom ...
